In January 2024, flyers were delivered to every household in the area and struck those who read them like a bolt out of the blue. Many overlooked them, assuming that they were just another green energy leaflet, and they went straight into the recycling bags.
We had no warning. Bute Energy, a private company funded by foreign investors, rocks up and says we are going to industrialise this area with massive turbines and a pylon line and “Make the Welsh Weather Work for Wales”
Consultations swiftly followed, and we began our fight at the end of February.
The message we received loud and clear was: We will take the electricity we generate from the 40 x 230m turbines in Bute Energy’s Lan Fawr Energy Park and convey it along Green Gen Cymru’s 52km Towy/Teifi pylon line, and this is the route we will take!
We have the authority to take and use your land, regardless of how you use it or who you are.
The community went into shock, and stress levels were and still are high.
Section 1 of the pylon line is in Ceredigion before entering Caerffydin and making its way down to Llandyfaelog near Carmarthen. A significant portion of the line cuts through agricultural land.
It’s brutal!
This screenshot shows it ploughing through the best silage fields of an 8th-generation dairy farm, effectively cutting the farm in half.
